There is nothing like the memories that thought of growing up in Castlebar evoke. I have a three year old son, I do hope he has such great memories as well! It is sad to see the small sweet shop gone. May Leonard was a very specail woman, I remember the queues well, but it was worth it. There were queues in all weathers, and I am not sure now almost thirty years on whether we were waiting for the sweets, which of course were the best in the world. Or were we waiting for that smile and word of wisdom from May herself! She was an amazing woman for her time. I think we need to set up a May Leonard appreciation society. I would love to know more about her. Does any one have any info about her?

It is great to see so many of the old sweet shops being remembered, I frequented them all at one time or another. Does anyone remember the one beside Robinsons (if it is still there?) garage in Spencer Street.
