"Receipts for making various articles of food of indian corn meal.
IMPROVED METHOD OF MAKING INDIAN STIRABOUT.
Two pounds of Indian meal put in three pints of boiling water,stir it very well and then leave it steeped all night.In the morning have ready three quarts of water in your stirabout pot on the fire when boiling,put in the Indian meal you have steeped,stir well and when it has boiled for an hour stir in a pound of oaten meal and let it boil another half hour.This will give four able bodied men a good breakfast and the cost is about 41/2d"

I had my instant oatmeal(porridge) with strawberries this morning,a far cry from the above.
