Kelly it is interesting to see how the "Irish Myths" can simply be dispelled with a visit to the country.

I live in the UK now but for some time worked in a local hotel in Castlebar. Each summer it was frequented by tourist, mainly from the USA. It was interesting because the bus driver had a particular one he played on the tourists. He would stop the bus in the middle of no-where, and get out cross the road, and cross back again and get in to the bus. As he got in to the bus, all the tourists were curious, concerned or nosey, and wanted to know what was up. He simply explained "that he was helping a Leprechaun across the road". They all became very excited and peered out the window to get a glimpse of the Leprechaun. Obviously to no avail.

Even now as I travel the world, the same statement is "My great grand.... came from ...." and do you know "So and so from wherever in Ireland". It is fascinating that everyone I met has Irish blood in their heritage somewhere. I guess we should be proud!

On living away from Ireland, I find it a bit of a paradox at times and I am sure that is how it seems to visitors that come with the mind of myths, that the world believes about Ireland and sees the reality.

Glad you are enjoying your stay.
