Could it be Ballinfad agricultural school/college near Castlebar? It might be too far out to consider, maybe it Could that be a possibility, or Moore Hall? There can not be too many houses of that size near Castlebar. The comment about the previous owner--a roman catholic might suggests Mr B was a protestant, and possibly English. That might help narrow down the search a little. Take a look at http://www.cmcrp.net/Mayo/Landowner1.html lists Property owners County Mayo circa 1870 and under Ballinfad is a Mrs. Margaret Louisa Blake, Ballinafad House, Ballyglass, Mayo 1,209 acres and Mark Blake Ballinafad, Ballyglass, Co. Mayo 2,234 acres. It also lists many other large farms in the area with some having owners with B as a surname. A very interesting read about landownership at the Time.
