The republican plot in the Castlebar cemetery is located close to the car park at Loch Lannagh. Before there was a car park the plot lay next to a wicket gate through which people accessed the lake. In summers past you could find lots of bicycles, all belonging to kids, lying haphazardly around or at the wicket.

The commerative ceremony photographed here used to take place every year on Easter Monday or possibly on St. Patrick's Day(?) - I don't know when the occassion ceased to be honoured. The internees of the plot were, I think, casulties in the War of Independence. The photographs were taken by a family member - nothing surreptitious !! There are at least two lines of old IRA men in the photos. As best I know the six riflemen in the front row were, from left to right:- Brody Malone, John Downes, __?____, ___?___, Paddy Cannon?, ___?___. Any help in naming people in the photos would be appreciated.
