was Mons Terrace built to house the families of British soldiers or RIC men ?
I think it was the early 60s that saw the commencment of housing developments. Prior to this was McHale Rd. in the 40s followed by St. Patrick`s Ave.and Marian Row / St. Bridgets Crescent in the early 50s. Marian Row was named after the Church`s "Marian Year" of 1954
In the 60s however I think The Curragh was the first of the modern private developments. The sites were developed by different builders and for years did`nt have proper footpaths or kerbing.
Kennedy Gdns., Harmony Hts.,Rathbán Rd. I think the first house built on Rathbán Rd, before reaching Yank Mangan`s was Cahill`s, Most of the houses built on the main rathbán rd. and on Pound Rd. ( the site of Francie Philbin`s and Catherine Murtagh`s huts) were built by Tom McHugh, father of Anthony and Anne of The Welcome Inn.
