If only those walls could talk! I suppose on your long journey all the way from the other end of town Mary, think of all the interesting places you passd......Mc Lynskeys on the Main Street, Regans on the other side....remember the window signs..."nylons slashed" as if anyone would want slashed nylons! Right up to Brady's which became Parsons. Do you remember when they sold out all the bowler hats before Parsons took over, and the steps....and further up you had Tanseys', opposite the Wimpy, Remember the Wimpy? I often think what a pity they changed the name on Tanseys. Tanseys has a great ring to it....and Sammy & Gessie looking out over the rail in the snug. And Teddy Bourke's cycle shop and the Craven A which he smoked incessantly.
And then on Castle Street you had two of the greatest shops in town, May Leonard's, what a sweet shop, and Stewarts for the best ice creams in town ( the older folk knew Stewarts as Duxie Mitchell's). I always remember May coming up to Christmas time and she would let you inside the counter as usual to chose the sweets, while she insisted on keeping the ingredients for the Christmas cake stirred. Now there's a few memories for yourself and for Butch too. They were great times, my granny told me all about them, and about Castlebar in the good old days.
Because I'll never be as old as either of you!!
