I'm nearly sure I can remember Milk bottles in Castlebar . . . yeah I'm sure I can remember the milk man . . (Tom ?) Higgins from Windsor direction used to arrive with a big truck and bottles rattling, that was early '70s, I think he later gave up the milk run and started distributing MONA yogurt products which were a bit of a craze for a while (simply because they weren't yoplait), you know the more I think of it I can sorta remember the first milk cartons . . . red & white with 'Milk' across the front !?
And I do remember being brought for a walk as far as the Creamery (NCF Co-Op Stores now, oppostie Davitt College) by my Dad to get a bottle of cream so we musta had bottles.
We used to be warned in school about the dangers of leaving full milk bottles outside as the birds would peck the top off to get at the cream and then sour the milk ???? Bizzare childhoods . . .
Anybody back up my fading memory ?
