The car park MM is referring to is located in the area of the lakeshore between the lake and the Republican plot of the cemetery and adjacent to the stream in question where it flows into Lannagh. There used to be a wooden slatted bridge across the stream leading to the diving board side. In the late 60s, as a result of lack of planning by the udc, a number of people were buried on this side of the stream, when the plots of the old cemetery were used up.
Your description brought to mind the deep cutting in the limestone, through which the stream flowed up at the Westport Rd. As a youngster I was unaware that this stream was a feeder from Saleen.
