Today, I received in the post 'Cois Coiribe 2001' the annual magazine published by NUI, Galway. This is the first issue I have received. Why now?
It's nice to see the old place doing so well. Trips down memory lane to the Sigerson Cup, outings with the rowing club, and the entertainment of the Lit n' Deb Society, and the enjoyment of the Science Society. Meetings of the Lit n' Deb Society, in the Greek Hall in the Quad, were very popular. Where is Mike Dwan who used to hold us spellbound, though of tiny stature, with his deep modulated voice? And Michael D. Higgins and Pat Rabbitt? Good to see the magazine Criterion survives. And Chaitlin Maude (Ionad Scríbhneoiri Chaitlin Maude). I wonder how many remember her when she lived in Castlebar. A nice person. Do students still 'hitch' home to Castlebar on the weekends, and back to Galway on Monday mornings?
