Tempus you have wonderful recall.Sometimes thats all it takes for me is to read something like this to trigger a memory or two.I remember Helen Kelly,a very pretty girl, older than me.I thought her father was a Dr.I remember Martin Moran and his shop.He had a daughter Ursula, older than me also. She also trained as a nurse in Dr Steenens Hosp.Last but not least I was trying to find out about the Jimmy O'Dea show on RTE 75 years, couldnt find anything,so decided to listen in to an episode of the Kennedy's of Castletoss.I was transported back to that era in the 1950's when I was in St Angela's National school. We would dash home for a hot lunch, gobble it down in order to be back again for 2pm.If we were lucky on a wet day to get a lift from Mrs Gaynor or Mr Joe Marrinan RIP( at least 10 of us in the cars)then we would hear all of the Kennedy's,it only lasted 15 minutes. In any case lunch was a very rushed affair for those of us who had a little farther to go.On extremely wet days we would catch the bus into town in the morning which made us a little late for school and would bring a lunch of a "sammich" and a bottle of milk.So part of the time we fell into that category of "country girls".But the " real country girls" had it hard riding bicycles for miles into school,no doubt after doing many jobs at home before they left.As we moved forward into secondary school,I still had a hard time getting back on time from lunch. Two of my friends to this day will say I was the cause of them being late, one to St Josephs and one to St Geralds.Happy Christmas ML and MG.
