No relation whatsoever!! As far as I know this is the story. Please excuse if there are any inaccuracies.
Jessie Kelly and Samie Deignan were sisters originally from Dalkey, Dublin. Their relations owned Tanseys pub and the girls spent lots of time in Castlebar as a result.
Jessie married a Kelly from Ballyheane, who was as far as I know a cousin of Paddy O'Malley, the Vet. father of Owen, Sudsey, George et al.
Jessie lived on Main Street, where in later years became 2 shops....Martin Moran had a small grocery shop and Kit Mahon had a ladies fashion shop. The entrance to the private living quarters of the house was actually in the archway to Brownville.
Jessie's husband died relatively young and Jessie moved up to Tansey's to join Sammie who at this stage was running the pub.
Jessie had three daughters, Margot, Helen and Bawney who live in England. Both Jessie and Sammie went to England and Jessie died and is buried there. Sammie died later , I'd say about 10 years ago, and is buried in Castlebar.
As I said, please excuse any inaccuracies.
I was sad when the new owners changed the name of the pub from Tanseys. I always thought Tanseys had a great ring to it.
Now, John Kellys of the Main Street was where Kelly the RMS in St. Mary's hospital came from.
I remember some of his family, all older then myself....he had a daughter who played tennis and a son who is a GP in Dublin and perhaps others.
That should keep you going for a while!!
