The Irish troops in Lebanon regularly communicated as Gaeilge on the airwaves to keep the eavesdropping Israelis in the dark. A friend who served many tours once told me how a colleague

Alas, Official Ireland is now going about turn with some of these lovely phrases. The zoo was always known as "gairdín na nainmhithe" (garden of the animals ?) A couple of years ago I saw a signpost pointing towards " An Zú "
When did the Irish alphabet get the z ?
