Do`nt know the exact location on Gallows Hill. I would be surprised if anyone does. However many who transferred to the new boys school in`63 sometimes experienced spine chilling sensations on entering the Gallows Hill Gate! "Jays he`ll kill me today" was often to be heard in this area!
My grandmother told me the pound was in an area at the junction of Marian Row/ Pound Rd. I recall the sloping section of the Pound Rd. from the end of Marian Row up to the junction with Rathbawn Rd. as having limestone cobble paving before being repaved with bitmac in the early 60`s. The ruins of tinkers huts were on the left hand side going up from Marian Row. Francie Philbin and Catherine Murtagh were two of the tinkers who lived there. We had our own hut in the remains of Francie Philbin`s. It was said he was a survivor of WW1.
Did any other road or street have a cobbled surface this late in the last century?
No idea about Collectors Lane. Maybe as the inhabitants were tenants of the Lucan Estate the street may have been frequented by rent collectors?
