Murrisk, you are correct. The Mall is actually the tree lined walk from Rock Square to Christ Church (the same in Westport, thr tree lined walk along the river).However, for postal purposes, the address called The Mall also refers to the area from Rock Square to the old Bank of Ireland past Daly's Hotel, formerly The Imperial. From the Courthouse over by the Garda Barracks to The Green Bay to the Old Infirmary, (now the new Council Offices)is known as The Green. I know, I lived there. For instance, my mother's address is 3 The Green, while 3 The Mall is where Woodchester Investment office used to be and before that it was Joe Bourke's accountancy office, between the hotel and Bea Hynes's house for those of you who remember back that far.
Also, the sign designating The Mall, used to read An Fhaiche, which actually means The Green. I'm not sure if that sign is still there but I will check it out and let you know.
