Good idea Murrisk. In the Newport Rd area the site of St. Gerald`s was known as Egan`s Field. The hill overlooking Marian Row and St. Bridget`s Crescent was Baines`s Hill. The site of the Hat Factory was shown on the 19th century maps as Lake Lawn. The land around the Hat Factory was known to us as The Hat Factory Field. The houses that have been built on part of this site are known as Belvedere Court ! Brilliant marketing here on the part of the developers. These houses would never have sold if they had`nt thought of a name that sounds like a Dublin 4 address and has no relationship with Castlebar.
