I remember at school a discussion about scalding the teapot. I think we were learning how to make cupán té as Gaeilge. Anyway a major debate brewed up as to the exact reason for scalding the pot. What was the function of scalding the pot before making tea -surely it didn't make any difference one way or dother? The poor teacher got confused. To this day I am still not quite clear as to the reason. Any ideas?
