I had to wake myself from my slumber to have
a look. You passed 3 fields after the weir
before you had to climb your first fence. The
gap in the next ditch was about a1/4 way up
and afurther 4 fields to the stye leading
into the field with the old ruin of the castle/
fort.As akid Iused to try to imagine who lived
ther and what sort of existence they had.
The 9th fence and you reached the Point. My
favourite spot was under the tree.
I never bored of the walk home. There was always
somebody to meet or watch kids who liked to
swim at the weir itself.
But I loved the wooden bridges the greeness and
the river running under neath the gaps in the
boards.
What i hated was having to come back to the
concrete and particularly Cavendish lane
which was filthy with oil from Josie Burkes
garage and grubby with bits of old car parts
and paper from the sixpenny Liar.
Leaving the walkways at the river reminds of the Hollogram they use in Star Trex where you can
escape from the sameness of everyday life and
enjoy a more idyllic time for a period.Of course
ThE Point wasno made up spot.
I used to come out at Newtown and if you has
a penny you could stop in breen Hobans and buy
one of the lovely orange lollipops that were
shaped like rockets. Now they would keepya sucking for a while.
