The man with the soft hat was indeed Johnny Coghlan, my grandfather, a native of Louisburgh and with a great knowledge of draught horses from the years he spent as a young man working with them. He was kind, gentle and inoffensive and treated me on Sunday mornings in Rattigans to a glass of Cidona and a thrupenny bar of Cadbury`s while he enjoyed a pint of porter and a baby power. He died in 1972.
