Mural on the side of building on Rock Square - It somehow strikes me as a rather romantic and idealised portrayal of an incredibly tragic chapter of Irish history in which a band of French mercenaries let by an incredibly arrogant General certainly came out on top as opposed to a poor band of Irish rabble who were ultimate deserted and betrayed by their French 'allies' when the final crunch came. For a good insight read Thomas Flanigans 'Year of the French' partly written in Turlough house | |||||
