I heard somebody asking a DJ to play 'a record' (and how quaint that sounds today too) for someone in hospital the other day. It brought back memories of a whole programme on RTE radio that was devoted entirely to playing requests for people in hospital.
Today, I wonder would the patient hear it if he or she were on a trolly? Or even off their trolly?
A quick google tells me that Gay Byrne and the late Colm Murray both presented the programme. Colm Murray began his career as a continuity announcer and presenter of Hospital Requests.
