New Church, Calvary Church Castlebar, Begins Family-Friendly Meetings

On September 8th, Calvary Church Castlebar starts weekly Sunday morning meetings featuring a thought-provoking Bible message and a full programme of activities for children. For more information email info@calvarychurchcastlebar.ie or call Stephen Childs on 086 3024170.

It's not every day that a new church starts in Castlebar, but at 11 a.m. on September 8th that's just what will happen, as Calvary Church Castlebar (CCC) hosts its first weekly Sunday meeting. Each week will feature a thought-provoking message from the Bible and a full programme of activities for pre- and primary-school children. CCC has already made an impact in Castlebar, bringing the Big Red Bus to the Heart of Castlebar street festival, and distributing the 4you.ie magazine which features inspirational true life stories.

CCC's aim is to provide Castlebar people with the opportunity to investigate the Christian faith for themselves. Stephen Childs of Calvary Church Castlebar says, "In the past year we've talked to many people in Castlebar who have never really read the Bible. That's a great pity, because the Bible answers the really important questions such as ‘What happens when we die?' Our goal is simple: to help people to explore the Bible for themselves so they can get to know God."

CCC's Sunday meetings will take place at Le Chéile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street, Castlebar. Starting at 11 a.m. and lasting around an hour, meetings will include music, prayer, and a talk exploring the relevance of the Bible for everyday life. A full programme, including crafts, singing, and Bible stories, will be provided for children of pre- and primary-school age. All CCC workers undergo Garda vetting, and CCC operates under a Child Protection Policy in line with "Children First" (the national guidance for the protection and welfare of children).

Calvary Church Castlebar is a non-denominational Christian group and holds to historic Christian beliefs such as the deity of Christ, the virgin birth, and the Trinity. CCC is part of Calvary Mission, a registered charity that has been promoting the Christian message in Co. Mayo for over 15 years. Calvary Mission runs the "Good News 4 U" bookshop in Westport, organises special-interest meetings on issues such as depression, and regularly distributes free Christian magazines. Calvary Mission groups are currently meeting weekly in Westport, Ballina, Charlestown, and Roscommon.
