The Order of Malta Castlebar will host a Fundraising Dance in the Royal Theatre Castlebar Friday 16 October.
Castlebar Order of Malta is currently in the process of setting up a Community Care Project.
This project is aimed at providing a service to the senior citizens of
the Castlebar community. We intend to bring in a number of senior
citizens once every two weeks for some light refreshments, a game of
bingo, some advice and talks on different relevant topics.
In
order for this project to go ahead we need finance to run it. As part
of our campaign for this project we are holding a fundraising dance in
the T.F. Royal Theatre Castlebar on Friday 16
October 2009, music is being provided by the one and only Mike
Denver. Pre show entertainment is being provided by Pat’s Country

Order
of Malta, Castlebar, was started in 1975 when Dr. Malachy Powell the then
Director of the Ambulance Corps, asked the late Capt John Cunningham to
be Officer in Charge of the unit. Although a site for the units
headquarters was not established until 1986 when Castlebar UDC offered to assist John in finding a suitable site which was found on
Pavillion Road. Castlebar unit headquarters was officially opened on
3 September 1989 by His Grace the Most Reverend Joseph Cunnane D.D. Conventual Chaplain ad honorem.
Over
the years the unit has grown from strength to strength with many
competition wins and an increase in volunteer numbers. These volunteers
provide a number of services at local events such as football matches,
concerts, and street festivals. Our latest addition to the unit is our
First Responder Bike Team. They have proven to be vital for these types
of events. We also take part in the National Pilgrimages to Knock and
Lourdes.
We
provide First Aid training to the 10-16 year old age group as well as
social activities and events where they can meet other young people
from around the country. Training is also available to 2nd level schools and members of the public.
