Newsletter - May 2001

Membership is of vital importance to the Chamber as we can only be a voice for the businesses we represent. Thank you to everyone that has already returned their membership application and fee and I would like to remind those that have not that it is now extremely overdue.

Get all you photocopying, spiral binding and faxing needs catered for in the chamber office. All services are discounted 50% for members. We also have meeting rooms for hire and a PowerPoint projector available.

Remember we have recycle bins for all your empty printer/photocopier toner cartons and cartridges. For all cartridges collected the Lions clubs will receive a donation which will be spent in the area. Please do your part for both the Lions Club and the environment by bringing your old cartridges to the office. We will also take old mobile phones.

A substantial number of respondents to the questionnaire said they felt we should re-activate business watch. If you are interested in getting involved or indeed if you just wish to get further information please let us know. This initiative has no cost to the participants and is there to safe guard businesses in the community?

Would you like to advertise on www.castlebar.ie the largest community website in the country? Visit http://www.castlebar.ie/about/advertisingrates.htm for further details.

We now have the services of an e-business facilitator through the CCI West Region SME E-Business Strategy who will conduct an e-business audit of your company for free. If you are interested please contact the office for further details.

The new local telephone directory is now available and can be purchased directly from the Chamber of Commerce office or from a number of outlets around town. Thank you to all businesses that supported this Chamber initiative.

The EU Market Access Database is a free, interactive, easy to use service providing:
  • Information about Market Access conditions in non-EU countries.
  • Systematic way for the European Commission to follow up complaints from businesses about barriers to trade in non-EU countries
  • Means of ensuring that our trading partners are abiding by their international commitments.
If you are an Irish Exporter, the database will help you to establish whether or not a particular market is worth targeting and assist you in selecting export markets and negotiating with local importers. For more information, you can log on to the Market Access website http://mkaccdb.eu.int/

Once again we held a successful Western Alzheimer's Tea morning. Thank you to everyone that supported this event.

Would you like to reduce the amount of paper in your office? Then receive the monthly chamber mailing by e-mail. If you need help in using your e-mail give us a call and we can show you how.

Remember get a reduction on your VHI fee through our members group scheme.

Thank you to everybody that took the time to respond to the business questionnaire. Full results will be available on our website in the coming weeks.

There are a number of changes in employer law. Are you interested in attending a seminar giving all details and requirements of the new working time regulations? Are you aware of your responsibilities under these regulations?
