Instructions for Installing MS Word's Web Page Authoring (HTML) option |
CASTLEBAR INFORMATION AGE TOWN CLUB COMPUTER PROJECT - WEBSITE UPDATING ETC. How to produce a web page - (very) basic instructions: Type your web page information using Microsoft Word. Lay out the page with all the information as you would like to see it. Then choose the menu options: File, Save As Html document. To test what it will look like on the Web, use the option: File, Web Page preview to view it using MS Internet Explorer which is installed on your machine - explorer will launch automatically. (use alt tab to return to word) When you are happy with what your pages look like e-mail them as an attachment to info@castlebar.ie. (For the technically-minded, you can compress it using winzip or pkzip if it is a large set of files.) Test out your site-making capabilities initially with a relatively simple site some text with simple logos and a few photographs for example. Training evenings will take place once you have had a chance to become familiar with the computer and the internet. Spend some time browsing and viewing other pages related to your own area of interest to see what other people are doing around the world. We will announce training sessions shortly There will be a fairly tight set of technical standards for photographs, etc. to ensure that everything on the Castlebar site is of the highest quality. (e.g. don't rush out to buy a digital camera as they may not be of sufficiently high standard). Clubs are encouraged to experiment with their web pages, however. When the new server is set up you will then have full password-protected access to your own web-site and you will be able to upload new pages at your own convenience - but remember that we do want weekly updates. An option to use simple templates will also be available to simplify the web page updating process. Have fun and experiment! |
