Web Page Setup Information for Castlebar Clubs and Societies

What's this schools stuff? The computers delivered to Castlebar Clubs and Societies were produced originally as part of a large batch purchased by Telecom designed for the schools Information Age project. The computer you received is not a school computer but it may still have some schools-related information and dial-up instructions intended for schools. You can ignore the instructions that relate specifically to schools.

I have an e-mail address and ISP already If you already have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) with Tinet, IOL, ANU or Indigo for example, uninstall the Tinet software by following the uninstall instructions given with the computer - these are on the glossy Telecom instructions sheet received with the computer. Follow the instructions carefully. Then install your original ISP account software using the installation disks obtained from your ISP.

How do I get online? If you do not currently have an ISP account you should contact Tinet and request an account and software or instructions for setting up such an account. Mention that you are in Castlebar and have obtained one of the special club computers as part of the Information Age Town programme. You will have to pay for this account but Tinet are offering a special deal for these accounts which will reduce the costs involved. All that is needed to participate in the programme is an e-mail address. Once you can dial up you simply e-mail the web pages and we will do the rest.

Where will my club's web page be located?
We expect all clubs and societies to place their web pages on the Castlebar Domain. In fact we have already set up dummy pages for all clubs. A full list of web page addresses is given below. Generally it is of the form http://www.castlebar.ie/clubs/club_name/ where club_name is replaced with your club's name. At present most of the links are to a dummy one line page giving the club's name. For those that already had pages on the Castlebar domain these have been transferred to this new address. If the name is not accurate please let us know and we will change it. If you already have a web page somewhere else we will expect you to mirror it on the Castlebar domain as part of the free computer deal.

Self-Help Mailing List A self-help mailing list has been set up specifically to deal with getting your computer up and running and creating your web pages. This is additional to the normal Gateway and Tinet help lines - which you should also use of course.
Please join the free mailing list which allows you to request help from other individuals or to offer help in reply to such requests. Fire in your requests for help and information and if you see a problem that you can solve for someone else please e-mail the solution. Obviously the Information Age Committee will pitch in with advice also. Anyone can join - you don't have to be a club computer recipient.

Home Page We would appreciate it if clubs would set their browser homepage to www.castlebar.ie. In Netscape select menu options Edit, Preferences and then put www.castlebar.ie in the home page box and then click OK. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer select View, Options, then the Navigation tab and enter www.castlebar.ie in the address window. Then click OK

Weekly Updates Once the training is complete and people are happy that they can create and update web pages we will expect weekly updates and additional material. It does not have to be a huge change every week - just enough to keep it fresh and keep people coming back for more information.

List of web site addresses for Castlebar Clubs and voluntary organisations - noteHome Page the links are to initial test home pages containing just the club name in most cases - those already active are marked 'Online' - the clubs will be adding plenty of details over the next few weeks once they become familiar with their new computers..
