This rare photo shows Freestate troops drilling in the grounds of the old workhouse (now demolished) in Ballina.
The photo was taken sometime after the building was occupied by them in September 1922, during the Civil War.
The workhouse had previously housed units of the Irregulars (I.R.A). St. Joseph's Hospital is now built on the site.
