Castlebar Swimming Club
The highlight of the Community Games at the weekend for the Castlebar Swimming Club was the victory of James Sweeney and Sally Cunniffe in the 50m U12 Boys Breaststroke and 50m U10 Girls Freestyle respectively.
These two swimmers proved themselves All-Ireland Champions for this year against the best swimmers from all around the country. The style which they swam would indicate there are plenty more medals to come in the next few years from these two swimmers
Laura Keaveney competing in the Girls U 16 50m Fly took 4th place in the final and was awarded a certificate. The competition was tough but Laura was up for it and has another year in the same age group.
Semi Finalists from the Castlebar club were Annie McCormack U 12 Freestyle, Aisling Bourke U 14 Breaststroke and Conal Joyce U 14 Freestyle.
The Girls U 13 Freestyle relay team of Emma Hynes Stephanie Ford, Aisling Bourke, and Natalie Bourke were in terrific form and looked odds on favourite to collect gold, unfortunately they had some very bad luck in the semi-final and were disqualified.
Other swimmers who took part from Castlebar were Nicholas Quinn U 12 Freestyle, Emma Hynes U14 Freestyle, Liam McLoughlin U16 Freestyle and Anthony English U16 Fly.
Yes, it was a good weekend in Mosney for the Castlebar Swimming Club and congratulations to swimmers and coaches
On a final note also we must congratulate the club swimmers who competed on the Castlebar Rounders Girls U13 team who won gold medals, Juliet Connaughton, Fionnuala Quinn and Deborah Brennan
