Mayo County Council ordered to pay woman €24,628 in damages
Phil Walsh from Kiltimagh is to be awarded €24,628 from Mayo County Council. Ms. Walsh was driving behind a council truck when it reversed into her car. Ms. Walsh said that it was terrifying and she thought the truck was going to cut them in two before it stopped. Since the accident Ms. Walsh has had problems with her neck and back and it has caused her discomfort.

Bed numbers reduced at Sacred Heart Home
Thirteen of the two hundred beds in the Sacred Heart Home, Castlebar, are to be taken away temporarily because of lack of nursing staff. The Minister for Health and Children has confirmed that structural costs will amount to €1.5 million in the Sacred Heart Home. This money has not been included in the budget for the board this year but it may be arranged so that the Sacred Heart Home project will get a higher priority.

Westport Chamber demands withdrawal of cinema objection
Mayo Movie World has placed an objection to a proposal for a three-screen cinema complex in Westport. Dr. Oliver Whyte, Westport Chamber of Commerce President, says that a three-screen complex in Westport would in no way damage Mayo Movie World's business in Castlebar. He also said that Westport needs a cinema to maximise its tourism potential. Castlebar cinema would always have more of a selection of films and Westport's proposed cinema would pose no threat to Castlebar.
