Wind turbine is destroyed by fire
Last Saturday one of the wind turbines at Lenanavea in Castlebar was destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire is not yet known but one theory is that the fire started when an emergency brake was automatically applied to slow the wind vane. The remaining four turbines have been stopped until the reason for the fire can be determined. The fire was extinguished eventually by the Mayo fire brigade.

Shock as road file lay on Minister's desk for 11 months
Mr. Michael Holmes, chairman of the Western Roads Action Committee (WRAC), spoke at a public meeting in Bartra House Hotel in Ballina on Monday last about the first phase of the upgrading of the N26 road. The file for the upgrading of the Ballina to Mount Falcon N26 road lay on the desk of Mr. Noel Dempsey, Minister for the Environment, for over 10 months and was in the Department for almost twelve months. This was only discovered recently when it was found out that the file only reached An Bord Pleanala in November last. Mr. Holmes said that this was disgraceful as there was money for this project last year when it should have been approved but there may not be any money allocated for this particular road this year.
