Battle of Mayo airwaves gets underway
When Mid-West Radio's license comes up for review this year a battle is expected. A new radio station under the name of Coast fm is looking to take Mid-West's license away from them to set up their new station in Castlebar. The new station will focus on current affairs and sport. Some of the people involved in Coast fm were also involved in the initial setting up of CRCfm but it is understood that CRCfm and Coast fm will be separate radio stations.

Six teams qualify for debating finals of Garda Aisling Challenge
Out of forty-seven projects, six schools have been chosen to qualify for the next round of the Aisling Challenge. The Aisling Challenge was a challenge to transition year students to tackle the problems of underage drinking, drug abuse and road safety in the form of an essay and visual project. The students could pick one of the three subjects to do their project on and the results were shown in the Castlecourt Hotel Westport Wednesday last. St. Joseph's Secondary School Castlebar was one of the six qualifying teams who will now debate their chosen topic of underage drinking with the other qualifying schools.

Town and Country Theme for Parade
The St. Patrick's Day Parade this year in Castlebar will have the theme of "Town and Country". The parade's organising committee chose this theme to show the great unity between urban and rural dwellers during the foot and mouth crisis last year. Last year's parade was cancelled due to the outbreak of foot and mouth, so this year the committee are aiming to make the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday the 17th March the biggest and brightest ever.
