Castlebar hotel escaped revoking of licence on technicality
Daly's hotel narrowly escaped their licence being revoked because Judge Devins said that the building had social and historical significance to the town. The licensee of the hotel was in court for serving during prohibited hours on August 12th 2001. Judge Devins said that she would adjourn the imposition of orders until June 2002. At this time the endorsement on the licence would no longer be valid.

Ring calls for orthopaedic services at Mayo General Hospital
Deputy Michael Ring has again called for an orthopaedic service at Mayo General Hospital. The Acting General Manager of the hospital replied that the orthopaedic service plan is now being finalised and orthopaedic services will start at Mayo General Hospital "at the earliest practical date during this year."

Public awareness night for parents
The Parent Associations for the secondary schools in Castlebar, St. Joseph's, St. Gerald's and Davitt College, have arranged a seminar on the damage alcohol and drug abuse can cause. All guardians and parents are invited to attend. The seminar will cover the subjects of the causes of the problem, some ways to prevent the problem and to generally inform parents of the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse. The seminar will be held on the 7th March at 8.00pm in the Mayo Adult Education Centre GMIT Campus, Westport Road.
