Castlebar faces TV blackout because of "fee amnesia"
Dropvale Ltd., the company who supplies Castlebar with the British television channels is to suspend the service because of people's failure to pay the fee. An office has been set up for those customers who wish to pay the fee of €65 on Main Street opposite AIB and it is open from 10:30am until 5:30pm Mon.-Fri.

Final Belmullet Tributes to Garda Killed in Road Smash
The small church of Our Lady of Dolours in Shanahee was full to overflowing last week for the final farewell to Garda Michael John Padden. The state funeral was attended by hundreds of people paying respects including Justice Minister John O'Donoghue, Deputy Garda Commissioner Mr. Noel Conroy, Judge Mary Devins and Garda Colm Tigue, son of Garda Tony Tigue who also died in the horrific road smash last week. Garda Michael Padden and his colleague Tony Tigue, said Fr. Kevin Hegarty, died in the noblest way, they gave their lives so that others could be saved.

Restaurant Closed for Underage Drink Breach
The Lantern Restaurant, Thomas Street, Castlebar has been closed for three days following a court order. The restaurant was convicted of selling drink to underage. A seventeen year old who was arrested admitted to buying the cans of lager he had been drinking in the Lantern Restaurant and also said he had been served there on two other occasions. On a separate occasion another fifteen-year-old youth had admitted to buying sixteen cans of lager, which were drunk by five underage youths. They were not asked for ID or their age when purchasing the alcohol. The owner of the restaurant dismissed the member of staff who had sold the alcohol and was charged a €600 fine and was deemed to close the restaurant for three days.
