A Bright Future for Castlebar Barracks – Kenny
Deputy Enda Kenny has high hopes for Castlebar Military Barracks. He says that, with some upgrading of the existing facilities, the barracks could provide regular training camps for Europe’s rapid reaction force and international peace-keeping operations. He said that the barracks needs a Virtual Rifle Range and a tactical exercise area. The development of Castlebar’s Military Barracks would be a practical and economic benefit to the area.
World Record Attempt in Castlebar
Castlebar’s Market Square is to be the birthplace of the establishment of a new world record. A group of people have come up with the idea of making a spiral of Euro coins. They are asking people to donate a one-Euro or a 2-Euro coin that will be added to the spiral. The money will afterwards be given to the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice Foundation. The event will take place on Saturday the 4th of May on the Market Square.
Seven Years and Still Waiting- Castlebar School Set to Protest
A protest will be held on the Mall on Friday May the 10th by the students and parents of St. Anthony’s School in Castlebar if their demand for a new school building is not met by the government. The school was given the go-ahead 7 years ago but since then the government has not done anything; the school wants to know when the building of their new school is going to start. When the Taoiseach came to Castlebar this week he told them that “there’s good news and a letter in the post” but if no word comes by Wednesday May the 8th the protest will go ahead anyway.
