Inadequate Technology Forces Leading Internet Provider out of Mayo
The lack of broadband infrastructure in Mayo has caused Westport-based Internet service providers to move their Irish offices to Galway. The government had told the company over the last 5 years that better bandwidth would be supplied in Mayo soon but recently it was found out that it would not be installed until at least 2005. ANU management could not wait any longer for the government to put in place the vital service and they were forced to move.

Castlebar Hospice will Re-open - Kenny
Deputy Enda Kenny has promised that he will see to it that the 2 hospice units in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar, will re-open if he has the opportunity to represent the people of Mayo after May 17th. The units have been closed for over 2 years with the result that there is no hospice unit in the county. The units were developed at a cost of £250,000, and palliative care nurses were recruited but never employed. Deputy Kenny says it is morally wrong that this was allowed.

Youth Council for Castlebar
On the initiative of Castlebar Parish Council, a Youth Council is to be set up in Castlebar. The Council will enable young people to have a greater say in the running of the parish. The Council will have representatives from young people in both 2nd and 3rd level schools as well as from young people living and working in the parish.
