West's farmers and tourism suffer from bad spell of weather
The wet weather and below-average temperatures we have been receiving this summer so far are affecting the tourist industry and farmers in the area. If the weather doesn't pick up in the next week or so the grass will rot in the silage fields leaving a feed shortage for animals much worse than has been seen in a long time. The tourist industry, which has already suffered after September 11th, will also suffer badly.

A night at the opera promises lots of variety
On Tuesday the 18th of June, Castlebar Rotary Club will present a Night at the Opera in the Linenhall Arts Centre in aid of local charities. The Drawing Room Opera Company will perform excerpts from Nabucco, L'Elisir D'Amore, Faust, Don Giovanni, the Magic Flute, Hansel and Gretel, the Chocolate Soldier and Die Fledermaus. The evening begins at 7.30 with a wine reception and the opera will start at 8.30. Tickets are 15 euro and can be bought from the Castlebar Rotary Club President Henry McGlade at 094-26299 or from the club Treasurer Tommy Moylette at 094-22807.

Enda Kenny makes a jubilant return home
Enda Kenny made his way home to a tremendous crowd of supporters, family and friends last Friday night. Bonfires lit up Ballyvary on his route home. In the TF Royal Hotel over a thousand supporters welcomed the new leader of Fine Gael. In a speech he made he said that that he was happy to take on the political Mount Everest he had to climb and he was prepared to give the task ahead one-hundred and fifty percent.
