Internal row erupting in Fine Gael over airport board post
Fine Gael Councillor John Flannery has been let down by his party when they failed to elect him to the board of Knock International Airport. Mr. Flannery has been a member of the council for the past twenty years but this year he was replaced by Mr. Joe Mellet. He was outraged when he turned up at the meeting only to find out that he no longer had a place on the council. He did not comment on whether or not he was going to leave the party but he said that this was not the end of the matter.

Town's first mayor was honoured by the experience
The town's first mayor commented on his experience from the past year. He was pleased by the Town Council's achievements over the past year such as the work on the Market Square and the extension of the town boundaries and the provision of the social housing scheme at Knockthomas. He said that there have been disappointments like the lack of progress on the work being done on the Mall but overall, he said that he was honoured and privileged to have served as the town's first Mayor.
