Gardai warning of fake 50 Euro notes
The Gardai have warned the public to be aware of dud 50 Euro notes, which are in circulation. A number of these were passed in retail outlets in Ballina over the weekend. In recent weeks fake notes were also passed in Castlebar and Westport.

Remembrance Garden for Mayo war dead planned
In an attempt to remember all those who were killed in World Wars from County Mayo, a public meeting will be held in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar on Thursday, August 22nd at 8pm at which a committee will be elected to pursue the development of a Memorial Garden of Remembrance. The organisers are asking the people of Mayo to support this venture, especially those with an interest in history.

Gardai seek information on sexual assault
The Gardai in Castlebar are investigating the sexual assault of a local woman which took place in the early hours of last Tuesday morning when a man broke into her home in which she lived alone. The Gardai are looking for a man about 6ft tall, strong build and wearing a white top with a hood over his head. Tests taken at the scene have been sent to the Garda Forensic Unit for examination. House to house enquiries have been conducted in the area. Anybody with any information or who may have seen this man in the area between Barrack Bridge and the Kingsbridge Inn between 2am and 2.30am or between 4.30am and 5am should contact the Gardai at 094 22222.
