Roundy Roundfort outweighs Alzheimer Foundation collection
Jimmy Sullivan (Roundy Roundfort) decided he would like to do something for charity so he challenged the West of Ireland Alzheimer Foundation to outweigh him with 2 Euro coins. Containers were placed in pubs in Mayo, Galway and Roscommon to collect as many coins as possible to outweigh Roundy. The weigh–in challenge was held in Lion’s pub in Roundfort last Saturday night. An amount of 11,560 Euro was raised. However, the 5,780 coins were not sufficient to outweigh Roundy. The proceeds go to help those caring for Alzheimers sufferers. Many thanks to Roundy and all those involved.

Simply the best… in Ireland
Emer McGrath, an 18–year–old student at Ballinrobe Vocational School, Co. Mayo achieved the highest results in Ireland in this year’s Leaving Cert. She is a daughter of Gerry and Mary Rose McGrath, Ballynew, Ballinrobe. Her top grades were in English, Maths, French, Accountancy, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Applied Maths and an A2 in ordinary level Irish. She now hopes to study Theoretical Physics in Trinity College to become a Physics Professor. Emer is wished the best of luck in her studies.

Ugly scenes mar underage soccer match
A meeting is to be held this week of the Mayo Schoolboys and Youths Association Football League to discuss a referee’s report into extraordinary scenes at a recent underage soccer match between Bangor Hibs and Castlebar Celtic. The match was abandoned ten minutes into extra time when the Celtic team walked off the pitch. A number of incidents took place in the Bangor Hibs clubhouse afterwards. Club pictures were damaged and a clock with sentimental value disappeared. An official for Bangor Hibs said that they are going to wait until after the meeting before invoicing Celtic for the damages but they hope to maintain good relations with Celtic.
