New Archbishop’s Mayo Connections
A Former Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, who lived in Crossmolina for 11 years, has been selected as the new Archbishop of Dublin. The Right Rev. John Neill, Bishop of Cashel and Ossory, was selected by vote at an electoral college gathering of 52 lay and clerical members in Christ Church Dublin on Wednesday.
National Stadium should be in the provinces
If the Government insists on proceeding with the proposed National Stadium it should be located in the provinces, according to Sean Hannick, Chairman of the Council for the West. Mr. Hannick said that if the Dublin to Galway motorway is not a victim of cutbacks the more logical locations for the national stadium for the entire country would be Athlone or Ballinasloe, or indeed with improved road connection, Roscommon.
Pub exemptions blamed for rowdyism
A district court judge has laid the blame for much of the drunkenness and rowdyism witnessed in towns in the county on late opening times and nightclubs with exemptions. Judge Michael Connellan warned that he was fed up with this kind of behaviour and would consider jailing people brought before him on drunk and disorderly charges.
