Traveller Ban leads to Objections to Pub Licences Renewal
The Mayo Traveller Support Group has objected to the renewal of several pub licences in Westport, in response to the blanket ban imposed on travellers. The town seems divided on the issue, with several local residents condemning it as prejudice, while publicans deem it necessary to protect their businesses
An End to Chewing Gum
Westport Chamber of Commerce has urged local retailers to stop selling all chewing gums in a bid to keep the streets of Westport tidy. Even though litter in the town is well controlled, the streets are still covered in chewing gum and cigarette butts. It is hoped that this initiative will help in the town's quest to regain the national Tidy Town's title.
Refund of PRSI Dental Payments called for by Ring
Deputy Ring has called for a refund of all PRSI Contributions allocated towards Dental Services. Mr. Ring claims that the government has already made savings of approximately €4 million, as a result of 1.5 million PRSI workers who continue to make payments, without access to dental services.
