The title says it all, this is the biggest weekend as far as ladies sport in the county is concerned with the All Ireland ladies football final taking place in Croke Park on Sunday. Mayo are bidding to win their third title in four years and at the moment are looking good odds to do so. This team is more than special. With players like Denise Horan in goal and Cora Staunton and Marcella Heffernan knocking them in, there isn't a team in the country that isn't afraid of them. But in saying that, Monaghan have a pedigree all of their own. In fact it would be true to say that, along with Mayo and Waterford they are responsible for making the ladies game as popular as it is now. Mayo will be desperate to exorcise the ghost of last year's heart breaking defeat to Laois, while Monaghan will be out to reconfirm themselves as kingpins of ladies football. This one will be a classic and for those who cannot make it, Mid West Radio are covering the game live so you wont miss a thing.

But if you think that that's the only sport over the weekend you are sadly very much mistaken. The soccer season comes to an end with the final games of the season taking place. The Mayo under 21 soccer team take on Finn Harps in Ballybofey while the Mayo under 14 team take on Donegal in the All Ireland Inter League semi-final. Gaelic Games are in full flight with the county under 16 and senior hurling finals on Saturday. Also on the same day there are important games in the county senior league, Junior finals in south Mayo and the Minor B Final between Swinford and Kilmeena.

Finally (and I use the term lightly), we move into round two of the Qualifying league for the AIL. Castlebar will want to continue their unbeaten run but their next game will be anything but easy. For they face none other than Westport. The last time these sides met was a cracker and it will be more of the same on Sunday. There are also many other fixtures over the weekend so stay tuned to local radio and papers for details.
