Connaught Minor Schools Championships
Swimmers from the Castlebar Club Swimming Club excelled at a very competitive and well attended Connaught Minor Schools Championships, which were as held at the Claremorris pool on Sunday the 20th of October.

They took a total of 6 gold 5 silver and 2 bronze medals in individual events and 2 team relay gold medals. Many swam personal bests for their events and 16 swimmers achieved the necessary qualifying times for the Irish Schools Minor Championships to be held in the Trinity Pool Donaghmede on November 15th/16th.

Double Gold for James and Natalie
James Sweeney (2) U11 F/C & Br/St Scoil Raifteirí
Natalie Bourke (2) U12 I.M. & Br/St Breaffy NS
Nicholas Quinn U10 B/Fly Scoil Raifteirí
Anne Mc Cormack U11 F/C St Pauls NS

Silver medals were won by:
Sally Cunniffe (2) U9 F/C and Br/St for St Angela’s
Nicholas Quinn U10 Br/St Scoil Raifteirí
Fionnuala Quinn U12 B/Fly Scoil Raifteirí
Rory Tuohy U11 B/Fly Snugboro

Bronze Medals were won by:
Aisling Bourke U12 B/Fly Breaffy
Conal Joyce U12 B/Fly C.B.S. Westport

Double Gold for St Angela’s Relay Team
In the relay events, the girls U12 team from St Angela’s which included Emma Hynes, Aisling Granahan, Deirdre Walsh and Stephanie Ford had a great day in taking double gold in both the Medley Team event and in the freestyle team event.

The following swimmers also qualified for the Irish Minor Schools Championships since they achieved the qualifying times in their individual events:
Tony Sweeney, Emma Hynes and Stephanie Ford.

Other swimmers to represent their respective schools in Claremorris were:
Vicki Staunton, Katie Costello, Deborah Brennan – St. Angela’s.
Ellen Cahill, Aoife McHale, Ita Heneghan,
Patrick Sweeney – Scoil Raifteirí
Rory Grier-Gavin – Snugboro

It's very encouraging for their coaches to see such good early season performances and this augurs well for the rest of the season.

Congratulations and well done to all the swimmers and the best of luck in the National Finals at Donaghmede on Nov 15th/16th.
