Tuam Gala Results

Tuam Gala
Swimmers from the Castlebar club travelled to the Tuam swimming pool to take part in an A gala on the 9th & 10th November. The gala was held over two days and featured all four strokes. The competition was very tough as it catered for all the clubs in the Connaught region but the Castlebar swimmers showed their metal by bringing home some medals and achieving personal best times.

The following swimmers achieved silver medals in individual events:
James Sweeney U 11 Br/St
Sarah Caulfield U 13 Br/St
Darragh Quinn U 15 Br/St
Laura English Women’s Br/St
Cian Holland Men’s B/C

Bronze medals were taken home in following events:
Laura Keaveney U 15 Fly
Jimmy Wiseman Men’s Fly
Cian Holland Men’s Br/St

There were other individual performances of note also; Colm Garrick has a new P.B. for a 100m Fly(watch out Cian) and James Sweeney got an A time in100m Fly – Well done lads.

Other swimmers to do the club proud include Aisling and Natalie Bourke, Maeve Garrick, Emma Hynes,Aisling Walls, Conal and Elaine Joyce,Patrick Wiseman ,Fergus Sweeney, Doireann & Dara Dever, Fionnuala and Nicholas Quinn, James Caulfield and Katie Tuohy

Relay teams Strike Gold
In the team relay events the Senior Medley team of Brian Moran, Colm Garrick, Jimmy Wiseman, Michael Walls took gold as did the freestyle relay team of Jimmy Wiseman, Colm Garrick, Ciaran Garrick, & Cian Holland in an exciting race. The boys under 15 team of Darragh Quinn, Brian Moran, James Sweeney and Anthony English took silver in the freestyle relay and bronze went to the under 15 girls team of Sarah Wiseman, Avril Egan, Eleanor Grier Gavin and Laura Keaveney also in the freestyle relay.
The final event of the day was the Women’s freestyle relay - Jill Magee, Ciara McGowan, Laura English and Laura Keaveney,
they took bronze in a very close finish.

Coaches – Francois Rossi, Marian English, Jacky Hynes and Joe Moran deserve great credit as do the swimmers themselves for their achievements.

Good luck to all the young swimmers going to the Minor Schools Championships next weekend in Donaghmede, Dublin.
