COLM MAKES WAVES AT CRANNY GALA

A number of senior squad swimmers from the Castlebar Swimming club traveled to Galway on Saturday 3rd April for the Jimmy Cranny Memorial Gala

Colm Garrick was in brilliant form and continues to go from strength to strength reaching finals in both the Senior Mens 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke where he took bronze and silver respectively and finished in 6th place in 50m Fly.

Sarah Caulfield produced another fine performance in 50m Breaststroke and scooped a bronze medal and took 5th place in the 50m Fly and was reserve finalist in 50m Freestyle.

Other performances of the day included –

Natalie Bourke took 5th place in the U15 Backstroke and made reserve finalist in 50m fly
Elenor Grier-Gavin in a personal best time took 4th place in 50m Breaststroke.
Aisling Bourke was reserve finalist in both the U15 Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke
Dara Dever in the senior Mens 50m Breastsroke took a bronze medal with Darragh Quinn finishing in 6th place and made reserve finalist in senior Mens 50m Fly.

The Girls team of Elenor Grier-Gavin, Sarah Caulfield, Natalie Bourke and Aisling Bourke finished in 4th place in the 4x25 100m Freestyle event

CONNACHT CHAMPIONSHIPS MEET- CASTLEBAR


Again the local swimmers did themselves and the club proud as they took on the grueling task of 200m and 400m individual swims at the Connacht Championships held in Castlebar on 28th March. The meet featured all 4 strokes with competitors from Claremorris, Shark – Galway, Laser- Galway, Athlone, Longford, Tuam and Sligo.

Gold for Colm , Conal & Laura
Colm Garrick in Senior 200m Backstroke, Conal Joyce in U14 200m Fly and Laura English in the Senior 400m IM won gold medals.

Stephanie Ford in the U14 200m Fly won silver medal.

Bronze medal winners –
John White – Senior Boys 200m Backstroke
Laura Keaveney – Senior 200m Fly
Laura English – Senior 400m Freestyle
Sarah Caulfield – Senior 200m Breaststroke
Stephanie Ford – Girls U14 200m Freestyle

Others to complete on the day included Rory Tuohy, Sally Cunniffe , Emma Hynes Brian Moran, Katie Tuohy, Elaine Joyce, Fionnuala Quinn, James Sweeney, Annie McCormack, James Caulfield, Nicholas Quinn, Dara Dever, Anthony English, Fergus Sweeney, Doireann Dever, Maebh Garrick, Patrick Wiseman, Katie Costello and Aisling Walls.

Congrats to all who achieved personal best times and Thank You to all who helped make the meet an enjoyable and efficiently run event.
