Very interesting thread,especially the piece about dowries.It was well known that any girl entering religious life in the Convent in Castlebar without any financial support/dowry,was treated differently than her well off colleagues & ended up in the Laundry at the rear of the Convent.
Yes there was a laundry at the Convent but as regards cases of abuse,someone else will have to reply.
