Spiced Up omitted one member of the Gulliver family, Paudeen of the Two Bellies. He was so called because of his enormous appetite and his ability to drink a score of pints at one session. He was also anchorman on the famous Kilclashagh tug-o-war team which remained unbeaten in the West of Ireland. He toured the country with Duffys Circus and appeared in the old Fairgreen in Castlebar in the late 1930s where he was known to wash himself in the nearby town river. Of course that would be politically incorrect nowadays, seeing that we live in age of utter madness. Two Bellies had no such inhibitions. He lived to a ripe old age without the aid of medicine, tablets or any other pills. The only thing he took was cod liver oil which he maintained always kept him in good shape. He had no medical card, no head shrinker and was as bald as a badger, as cute as a fox and like the ould cat had nine lives. God be good to the poor craythur, he had more common sense than all the consultants and politicians in the world and he never took a brown bag, either. Isn't it time we honoured him with a Two Bellies Festival.
