I knew Jack Cassidy well, a great character with a lovely turn of phrase. He looked after his sister Kathleen with great devotion when she was confined to a wheelchair. His father, Bill, as far as I can remember, served in World War I. Bill had a brother, Johnny, I think, who was a tinsmith by trade and lived in Lucan Street. The Cassidys, Fallons and Blakes, old Castlebar families, are mentioned in the 'Playboy of the Western World' by John Millington Synge. Jack Cassidy was a billposter and 'hung' the posters for the County Cinemas, Duffy and Fossetts circuses. He was, like his father, town crier and I remember him going around the town with his bell announcing auctions and other events. Another character, 'Showery' Murtagh, lived in Lucan Street. May have been a cooper by trade. Any other other memories from the old stock?
