Not many tv's around the street in our days. However we had to make do. Remember watching some of the early tv's in Kilkelly window and also in RTV's window where Hynes Jeweller shop is now. Our biggest thrill if we wanted to watch a soccer match/or Eurovision Song contest/ or F.A. Cup Final was to go down to Johnny Gavins ( Liam & Ker's Dad)in Charles Street. We were always made very welcome by Johnny and Liam, and although we might have 14 or 16 of us all crowded around in various parts of Johnny's living room, perched on dressers, chairs , stools anywhere we could find a spot, they never ran us out. I think Johnny loved the company and the bit of crack and comradeship we all had down in that small living room all huddled around. We watched European cup games with a very fuzzy snowy pictures, but we always had the sound !!! Later Liam got a very high aerial erected and the picture was much improved. Good ould Johnny and Liam for introducing us to tv in those bygone days. Much later we were introduced to COLOUR tv and I well remember going down to Paddy Hobans beautiful lounge to see CANNON, who was a big fat detective, but great, also Kojak, the baldy lollipop sucking detective. And wonder of wonders watching the Grand National in COLOUR and the lounge packed.Good and great Memories.
