There is interesting speculation that WBY may in fact have been on the Autistic Spectrum, perhaps Aspergers Syndrome. He was fixated on Maud Gonne but she apparently never gave him the least encouragement and his obsession with her is reflective of Aspergers. He later developed a similar infatuation with her daughter. A professor at Trinity has published on this recently. He reckons Dev was of a similar nature.
